Mark Coldren, Former Associate Vice President for Human Resources at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, Receives Honorary Life Membership in CUPA-HR

Mark Coldren has received honorary life membership in the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR). Honorary life membership is the highest honor for recognizing CUPA-HR members who have demonstrated a lifetime commitment to the higher education human resources profession and long-term leadership in the association.

Coldren, a long-time leader, mentor and member of CUPA-HR, has held several positions within the association, including chair of the national board of directors; chair of the Eastern Region board; and a member of the Budget and Finance Committee, Career Development Committee, Emerging Issues Committee, Learning and Professional Development Committee and Corporate Advisory Council. He has also served on the Greater New York Chapter board in addition to the Learning Matrix task force that created CUPA-HR’s first learning framework. He has also been a leader of the CUPA-HR Wildfire program since its inception nine years ago.

John Whelan, vice president for human resources at Yale University shared: “There is not another person I can think of who is more deserving and emblematic of honorary life membership than Mark Coldren. His commitment to CUPA-HR has been unprecedented over the past two decades and despite his incredible history of leadership in CUPA-HR, he operates with a humility that belies his outsized impact to the entire profession of higher education human resources.”

Coldren retired from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York at the close of 2022.
