Candace Baer, Former Vice President of Human Resources at Rhode Island School of Design, Receives Honorary Life Membership in CUPA-HR

Candace Baer has received honorary life membership in the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR). Honorary life membership is the highest honor for recognizing CUPA-HR members who have demonstrated a lifetime commitment to the higher education human resources profession and long-term leadership in the association.

Baer, a long-time member of CUPA-HR, has held several leadership and mentorship positions within the association, including positions on the national board of directors and Eastern Region board; chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee; and member of the Emerging Issues Committee and Engagement/Alignment and Mentoring task forces. She also helped lead CUPA-HR’s Creating Inclusive Communities project and served as a facilitator for the CUPA-HR Understanding Higher Education experience in 2020.

“Since 2002, Candace has been steadfast in her commitment to higher education human resources,” shares Cassandra Goryl, senior human resources partner at the Rhode Island School of Design. “She has been especially instrumental in advocating for and advancing CUPA-HR’s strategic priorities and is a force and a source of such incredible light — energy that I am hopeful that our organization will continue to benefit from for years to come through her ongoing membership.”

Baer retired from the Rhode Island School of Design at the close of 2022 after a 20-year career in higher ed human resources and will continue her work strengthening leaders and advancing inclusive communities with Baer & Associates.
