Ordering and Accessing DataOnDemand
Ordering DataOnDemand (DOD)
Anyone at your institution can purchase a DOD subscription. However, only your institution’s chief HR officer, CUPA-HR membership contact or a designated DOD sub-administrator can authorize DOD access.
- Purchase DOD.
- Your institution’s chief HR officer, CUPA-HR membership contact and any designated DOD sub-administrators will receive an automatic email notification that a new DOD purchase has been made, with instructions for granting access.
Important:
- Access to DOD must be assigned with each new subscription purchase. For security purposes, our system resets with each new DOD subscription year.
- DOD subscriptions will not be accessible until orders are paid in full.
- DataOnDemand orders remaining unpaid after 90 days will be automatically cancelled.
Accessing and Using DataOnDemand
Granting (and Removing) Access for Employees
Only your institution’s chief HR officer, CUPA-HR membership contact or a designated DOD sub-administrator can assign DOD access. Here’s how:
- Go to your CUPA-HR account. Log in using your own CUPA-HR log-in credentials. (Note: If this is the first time you have logged in since May 1, 2024, you will need to reset your password. Your username is your email address.)
- Select Manage DataOnDemand Access from the menu on the left.
- Type in the first or last name of the DOD user you want to grant access to and click Filter, or scroll down through the grid to assign DOD to multiple employees.
- If the employee’s name does not appear in the results, you must first add that person to your membership roster. On that page, click Actions in the top blue box and select Add Individual. After adding the person, return to Manage DataOnDemand Access and use the filter to find the person in the list.
- In the row containing the employee’s name, hover in the column of the correct DOD subscription until you see a pencil icon appear. Click the pencil icon and then click the check box that appears. Click your tab key to lock in that selection. Use your mouse or arrow keys to move to the next column, and repeat for each DOD subscription. An employee only has DOD access if a checkmark appears in a DataOnDemand column.
- “w/ your data” allows this employee to view salary and demographic data provided by your institution.
- “w/o your data” will hide this information from the employee.
- When you have selected all applicable DOD subscriptions for the employee, click Save.
- To assign access to another employee, repeat steps 3-5.
- To remove DataOnDemand access from an employee, filter for their name, then simply uncheck the check box(es), click your tab key to lock in each change and use your mouse or arrow keys to navigate through the columns. When you have unchecked all applicable DOD subscriptions for the employee, click Save.
When you grant access to a DOD subscription, the employee will receive an automatic notification email with instructions for accessing that subscription.
Granting Access for Consultants
Your institution’s chief HR officer, CUPA-HR membership contact or a designated DOD sub-administrator can assign DOD access to consultants who are working with your institution. Here’s how:
- Go to your CUPA-HR account. Log in using your own CUPA-HR log-in credentials. (Note: If this is the first time you have logged in since May 1, 2024, you will need to reset your password. Your username is your email address.)
- Select Manage DataOnDemand Consultant Access from the menu on the left and follow the instructions.
After you have been granted access to one or more DataOnDemand (DOD) subscriptions, familiarize yourself with the Important Information below. When you’re ready:
- Log in to Surveys Online/DataOnDemand. Please read the instructions carefully to make sure you understand the process for your institution type.
- Click DataOnDemand on the top menu bar.
- Click Comparison Groups if you wish to create your own custom group or use an existing comparison group.
- Click Survey Reports when you are ready to run a DOD report using either public or custom groups.

DOD is a subscription service that expires each year. View the DOD schedule for expiration dates.
Understand Comparison Group Restrictions
Once you use a comparison group, any other comparison groups that you create or edit MUST differ from it by at least three institutions. This restriction applies even if the previously used group has been deleted. This protects the confidentiality of institution data. For more information, see the tutorials for creating and managing comparison groups.
